My students need flexible seating like floor seats, cushions, balls, and beanbag seats to make it easier to sit and focus on their work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn, and determined to succeed. However, many of them are unable to bring in their own supplies, so it is up to me to make sure that they have what they need to learn. As their teacher, I want to be able to provide them with all the tools they need to succeed.
I am a second grade teacher in a Title I funded public school on Staten Island.
I teach an ICT class with students that have challenges ranging from learning disabilities to speech and language impairments and autism. They struggle to keep up with the Common Core Curriculum and need a lot of support. As their teacher, it is my job to do everything possible to make the curriculum accessible to them.
My Project
Many of my special education students have difficulty sitting at a regular desk in a regular chair and successfully focusing on their work for extended periods of time.
These flexible seating choices, like floor seats, wobble cushions, and exercise balls, will enable them to continue their work whilst also moving around and getting some of their energy out.
It is very helpful for my students to have an alternate work space or seating option in the classroom, that they can go to when they are having difficulty focusing or need a change of scenery. These flexible seating choices will make a huge difference in the quality of learning happening in my classroom.
