This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are made up of many different cultures, backgrounds and family structures, but they all have one thing in common, they are eager to learn. Unfortunately, over 80% of the students in my school are low income so they are not given the excess resources many students are from their families. A lot of my students don't even have an up-to-date computer in their homes.
I try to help expose them the best I can, but this is why I need your help.
I work really hard to try and create a classroom that is welcoming and that they can call their own. With flexible seating options, the classroom will not just have desks and chairs, but a variety of settings to help engage them to produce quality work.
My Project
Imagine being in Fourth Grade and having to sit the ENTIRE SCHOOL DAY? Sitting in the same seat, the same spot, next to the same people, all day, every day. It can be tiresome, and for a 9/10-year-old, it can also be boring. As a teacher, I am always looking for new ways to engage my students. I realized that even as an adult, we need comfort and space so that we can focus and do our best work. So, how can we not allow our kids to have the same options??
Kids need to be able to be comfortable in their classroom to produce their best work.
This is why I am so eager to develop flexible seating in my classroom. I want my students to have a safe, comfortable, calm space that will allow them to get lost in a book, create meaningful writing and share in the classroom community.
