My Students
I teach at a small middle school in a small school district. The district I teach in only has one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. The majority of the students live in poverty and are homeless. What I mean by homeless is that the parent(s) and the children are living with other relatives because they do not have a home of their own. The middle school I teach at is a Title I school, which means that we receive funds from the government to get some of the resources that we need. In addition, the students all receive free lunch and breakfast every day.
My goal every day is to make my classroom a safe, learning environment so that my students work toward being successful scholars every day.
I try to make learning as engaging as I can because I know that many students can be turned off from it because they feel school is boring. I teach my students that history happens every day and they are a part of it. I love seeing the expressions on their faces when they begin to discuss historical events.
My Project
Lights, Camera, Action...These microphones and microphone stands will truly get my students excited and engaged in reviewing content we have discussed in class through a weekly talk show. As teachers, we have all been taught to reach our kids where they are...and my students are always asking me, "Did I hear the "tea" about some famous celebrity?" I thought, "Why not have my students spill the "tea" on some of the historical figures and events and characters we discuss in Social Studies and ELA class?" These microphones and stands will add just the right touch to make my kids excited about learning.
