Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The ocean can be a scary place. The waves can be rough and it is often difficult to overcome them. Sometimes, no matter how many times you get up, you keep getting knocked back down.
I compare the plight of my students with being tossed into the ocean.
My students live in a high poverty area with the majority of them receiving free or reduced lunch. They meet obstacles every way they turn. They receive little to no assistance at home. Whether they "sink or swim" pretty much depends on what they are able to take in during the course of a school day.
My Project
An instructional easel will allow each student to participate in small reading and writing workshop mini-lessons. The easel is so vital, for it allows them to sit close to the teacher as the skill is modeled, get actively involved in small group discussions, and helps them stay better focused on the instructions. Individual dry erase boards with markers will allow them to write a response and quickly show the answer, thus giving me the opportunity to visually confirm that they are understanding the concept, swimming, not sinking.
The dry erase easel and white boards will allow each student to have the necessary resources to reach their full potential.
For they are so full of potential. They just need the chance to get it out. These resources will help them stay on task and stay focused.
