Singing From Our Hearts

My students need materials like a metronome, a microphone, sleigh bells and CDs to assist us in our plan to sing holiday songs for people in our school community.

My Students

The holidays in December can be a sad time for people who are struggling financially. Our school philosophy is focused upon teaching our scholars that they have a responsibility to give back to the community and show compassion for those who are less fortunate.

Our scholars are middle school aged, very creative, energetic, and excited about rendering community service.

We are a Title I school, and a large percentage of our students are on free and reduced lunch. Our scholars wear uniforms everyday. The school is a small academy with less than 300 scholars, and a dedicated hard working principal and staff. Since it's inception in 2002, the school has had a music program, but not a chorus. This year we will have a chorus consisting of students from grades 6-8. We will have at least two major concerts this year. Our first performance will be in December for the student body and parents. We wish to extend this effort to provide the joy of music for others outside of our immediate school community. It is our intention to perform our holiday concert at a local senior citizen center, a homeless shelter, as well as for pre-school children in a local elementary school. We are going to take our show on the road. 'Tis the season to be jolly!

My Project

All of the supplies we are requesting are items we need: to facilitate the learning of our concert songs (the metronome); for student accompaniment (bells and rhythm instruments); for background musical accompaniment (karaoke), and which will make it easy for us to sing along without a pianist to accompany us outside of the school; and to project the sound (microphones with cables) of these beautiful young voices.

Everything that we are requesting will be used beyond the holiday season for future performances of this chorus.

We are a new chorus and in need of materials for teaching music. As an educator who values and promotes the importance of arts education in the schools, I am dedicated to doing my part to sustain these programs. In spite of the budget cuts that have affected so many of the arts programs in public schools, we are determined to keep our program up and running, but we need your help.
