Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kids can learn most anything through song - especially academic skills. As the music teacher on a title-one K-5 campus, I see the power music has to help students learn. Our high-need students love the opportunity to learn in different ways.
Teachers often approach me to teach the students a song that highlights a certain topic. They might not know a great song kids will love that teaches about hibernation or healthy eating. Or maybe they don't feel comfortable singing or can't read music notation.
I want to help classroom teachers integrate music and singing into their every-day lessons! Using the songs on the Cd's selected, I will meet with teachers and help design musical experiences that will enhance what they're already teaching. Starting in Kindergarten, we will work to assign songs to each unit in the curriculum.
You know music makes a difference. You can help our students fill their heads with songs that teach instead of cartoon theme songs or commercial jingles. Help our students learn with meaningful music!
