This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday, my students come in ready to learn and excited about the things we will do in the classroom. I have a group of wonderful 20 wonderful students that love singing and learn so much through song! If I could play songs for them to sing all day, everyday, they would not get tired!
My 20 kindergarten students live in an area of high poverty and attend a school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our Title I school has a very high mobility rate, where students move around several times within a year. Because of the area that the school is in, we are able to provide many services to the families of our students.
My Project
My students are loving, energetic, and musical. Their favorite part of the day is being able to dance and sing for math and literacy. Parents and teachers are always telling me that they love to sing the songs we do each day in class. With the resources requested, my students will be able to sing more of the songs that Heidi Butkus has created. When I introduce new sight words, we play a few games, along with singing a song that can get it stuck in their head. It is amazing how much a silly 30 second song can help a student recognize, spell, and remember.
Since my students are always singing, it would be great if they could continue singing sight word and number songs through their day.
Even the students that typically refuse to sing or dance to other songs cannot resist the fun songs on these DVDs. Parents love hearing what their children have learned.
