Science is fascinating! There is so much that we can learn about our world. However, some things are difficult to learn about if you don't have access to them.
I teach general science to about 110 seventh grade students at a small school in rural Arkansas.
Many of them are from farming communities near our school. Some don't have access to a computer or the Internet, and have limited opportunities for traveling around to explore the world. I do all I can to bring the world to them, but it is difficult without the right technology.
My Project
Our school has some laptop computers which are shared among all of the students in our school, and it is sometimes difficult to get access to them when we need them for research. If we had a wireless laptop computer in our science room it would greatly assist us when we need to do research. We could also use it along with various data collection devices. We are working with the COCORAHS volunteer rain gauge network, and we collect rain data for our area and enter it into a national database. With a laptop in our classroom, the students could enter the data easily every day.
In today's world, it is so critical that students have access to computers and the Internet.
Most of my students are quite good at using them, however, some are not because they have so little opportunity to us them. Please help us to obtain this valuable technology!
