Our world is so fascinating, and there is so much that we can learn about it! However some things are difficult to learn about without the right tools.
I teach general science to about 100 seventh grade students at a small school in rural Arkansas.
Many or them are from farming communities near our school. Some don't have access to a computer or the Internet, and have limited opportunities for traveling around to explore the world. I do all I can to bring the world to them in our classroom, but it is difficult without the right tools.
My Project
We have a small classroom lab with very few tools and supplies, and a very poor teacher! It is very important that I teach lab safety, and disposable gloves are very necessary. The students will use them for several lab activities throughout the year. The test tube racks will be used for storing test tubes overnight when we investigate the effects of hydrochloric acid and pepsin on an egg white mixture to see digestion in action. We will use the digital scales in many ways, including finding the mass of hot wheels cars as they investigate Newton's Laws, measuring the growth of chicks that have hatched, and investigate the Law of Conservation of Matter in various activities.
In today's world, it is so critical that students have access to the tools and instruction that will help them to understand the world around them and to train future workers in STEM fields.
They get so excited when they have opportunities to work in a real lab with authentic equipment. Thank you for your consideration in funding our project!
