My students need magnets, tape and pulleys to do laboratory activities with simple machines, magnetism, and Newton's laws.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Taylor's classroom raised $596
This project is fully funded
My Students
Our day includes working with a peer to complete a task, making an interactive notebook page with data, or making a foldable to aid understanding. By the end of the year I hope my students will have increased in scientific knowledge, and gained curiosity about the natural world they live in.
My students are 7th and 8th graders in a rural school.
We live about 15 miles from the nearest town. Our school, kindergarten through 12 grade numbers around 650 students.
Most of our students are from low income families, many from single-parent homes, or blended families.
They love school and are excited to learn! Thank you for helping us create an environment that is exciting and interactive!
My Project
The magnets would allow students to investigate magnetic properties while building a maglev train using boxes, magnetic strips, and different types of magnets to make a piece of foam float above their tracks.
The colored tape will be placed strategically onto a 16x20 tarp to mimic a busy intersection that will allow students to drive through, helping them investigate what makes travel safer.
The spring scales will be used in activities designed by students to make work easier using simple machines and pulleys to move objects.
This project would improve our classroom because it would allow students to participate in activities they do not have materials at home or in school to do.
It would incorporate higher level thinking as well as engineering skills into our curriculum which could inspire them to go into a engineering field one day or other technological field.
More than half of students from low‑income households
