My Students

My school is in an urban area, and it is classified as a low-performing school due to attendance and low test scores. Our school is able to provide us with some items to create projects; however, resources are limited.

We are learning and growing in our Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed Classroom.

The students in my class have all been diagnosed with a disability. They range in age from 3 to 5. Although there are many activities we struggle with, we enjoy playing in centers as we increase our social skills.

My Project

My students are energetic learners. We are trying to get a STEM center in our room. Students really enjoy manipulating items and don't realize how much they are learning through play. We are requesting a light table and blocks to elevate learning. When children play on a light table it helps to enhance the experience and allow them to see different perspectives. Light tables are useful when exploring bugs or leaves because it helps the different characteristics stand out. Light tables enhance visual intrigue, collaboration and enthusiasm.

STEM activities help create a love of learning.

So often it appears to onlookers that we spend our days in preschool playing and singing all day. STEM centers allow students an opportunity to freely engage their imaginations doing activities they enjoy. Early exposure to math, science, and mathematics allow students an opportunity to engage their imaginations without fear of failing.

We also need a STEM workstation to house all of our materials in an easy reach location. Having an area students can visit everyday will help empower them for future learning.
