What happened to the woodshop elective? I teach 9-12th graders in a mixed graphic design class. This is a regular New Jersey high school. Many of the electives are being taken away to make room for more core subjects.
I teach at a high school where the woodshop elective was taken away and not replaced with anything. I am trying to start an elective that allows students to not only create graphic designs, but actually print them on different mediums. Since this is a new class there is no budget to do this. Students want to be hands-on after sitting down in their other classes and do not have the materials to be hands-on.
My students really desire to be hands-on, and this class will help them to be hands-on and create original art. The items they make can be used to help support clubs and classes. Graphic art students can make items for individual classes and have the joy of knowing that they created something that other people love.
With your help my students will have a hands-on activity that helps build school spirit. By allowing the students to create, make and show off items give them a sense of accomplishment.
