This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our high school is a small school with big school ambitions. The educators are continuously striving to make themselves better for the wonderful students who attend here. My students are English language learners who are recent immigrants to the United States.
Many of my students have experienced interrupted schooling due to various reasons beyond their control.
Most of my students are from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. My students are very eager to learn everything they can to make up for their lost learning time.
If I can provide them the necessary materials to catch up to their peers, my students will shine brightly. We need to show these students that we care and will do our best to help them in the classroom and in their new country.
My Project
This school year, we are encouraging every student to read at least 60 minutes per day. I provide 30 minutes of class time for my students to read. We have very few books in Spanish for my students. I purchased the books we already have and, to my delight, the students are devouring them! Many also choose books in English, but we already have plenty in English.
We need more books in Spanish!
This will allow my students to not only read in school, but also to take the books home to read and share with their families. Basic supplies in Spanish are difficult to come by.
