My Students
Our class motto is: Relentlessly Pursuing Excellence! Though we are a music class, we use music as a means to develop life skills like thinking and responsibility. We work as a team to create and enjoy high-quality music.
We are passionate about providing high-quality music education to inner-city students that have been historically underserved and excluded.
With roughly eighty percent of our students on the free or reduced-price lunch program, many students struggle to pay for instrument rental or supplies. That said, the students in the music program go beyond the excuses to find ways to reach their potential. They overcome challenges and adversity while supporting each other in achieving success.
My Project
Our school has been learning remotely since March. This means that students in our band classes are doing all their playing in their individual homes.
Students who play loud instruments, like trumpets and trombones, need Yamaha Silent Brass systems to enable them to play quietly while family members are learning, working or sleeping.
These mutes dampen a majority of the sound from brass instruments while sending the audio into headphones. They allow students to continue to practice normally while living in close quarters with others. This is an essential aspect of pandemic remote learning for brass playing students that live in apartments or homes with others distancing for safety.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
