This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In American Literature (11th Lit) at my school, students will participate in a "silenced" book unit where they choose between graphic novels, modern/high interest texts, and canonical texts that have all been banned by some schools/districts.

They will read the argument for why it was banned originally, read the text, and then write an argument for or against banning the book.

Students will create a visual argument that addresses the original issues found with the text and their own views on the validity of those issues. They will present these arguments to a panel of their peers/judges so that they will have an authentic audience.
