Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students, many non-verbal, with intellectual disabilities and/or on the spectrum, have helped me discover my Why. Their unique ways of expressing themselves, that are alarming and uncomfortable for many, have captured my heart, empowering me to pursue a certification in behavior analytics so that I may better support them with expressing their needs and wants across environments.
To Silence the screams and understand the hidden language behind my students self inflicting pain, aggresion towards others and destructive nature, I must continue to gather resources that will transform my classroom and community based instruction.
Creating a more peaceful and accessible environmnet will allow for a soothing, welcoming, and more conducive experience for learning for my students and all those that nurture/care for them on a daily basis.
I am convinced that behind the aggression, there is a fragile state: My student's self-injurious actions demand our urgent attention to ensure their safety and the safety of others. For this reason I am requesting funds to be able to get the VB MAPP to create behavior plan assessments that are personalized. The portable microphone and head sets will allow for better audio/verbal communication and participation in interactive activities such as community based instructions to teach safety and self-regulation. Finally, the mini water fall, laptop stand, batteries and ink will allow me to be more productive and work more efficiently when creating functional activities that will resonate with each students behavioral, academic and overall wellbeing.
