My Students
Have you ever been so drawn into a story that it seems like you've been completely transported to a whole new world? The creative imagination of my students, along with fabulous literacy centers, is what I hope to draw from in fostering a love of reading and literature in my classroom.
Our school is committed to effectively implementing the new Language Arts Common Core.
With the integrated strands of science and social studies, the environment is very literacy rich. Opportunities in the new core abound and classrooms are seeing a turn toward more reading, discussion and creative thinking. My students are so engaged with the subjects and topics we cover that I want to give them additional small-group time and support in order to support and enhance their desire to achieve.
My Project
My students need materials to facilitate and manage literacy centers into our weekly curriculum. We are asking for lapboards, letter tiles, chart paper and markers to help our centers come to life. There are many benefits to this learning style. First among those is a more effective and efficient use of teacher and student time. The smaller ratio provides key interaction time between teacher and student and allows the teacher to more adequately differentiate lessons for all of the learners in the classroom. It also allows for more instructional time than in that of a whole-group setting. Finally, the peer interaction is increased allowing for richer discussions and important opportunities for speaking, listening and responding.
