Abraham Lincoln said, "If there is anything that a man can do well, I say let him do it. Give him a chance." The biggest challenge my staff and I have is preparing academic and vocational materials so our students can demonstrate their extensive knowledge.
My students are in kindergarten through fifth grade classes for students with severe disabilities.
They attend a public elementary school with over 900 students. All of my students mainstream into a general education class at some point during the day. Their differing abilities include: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Epilepsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, visual impairments, and hearing impairments. Many have parents currently serving in the U.S. Military.
My Project
The laminator that I am requesting is absolutely amazing! It is a heavy duty machine that can laminate materials with up to 5 mm of lamination thickness. My students have a difficult time demonstrating their knowledge using traditional textbooks and worksheets. My staff and I will modify academic as well as vocational tasks, laminate them, apply Velcro, and then watch our students demonstrate their extensive knowledge.
Thanks to your generosity, students from 5 to 12 years of age with severe disabilities will have laminated materials protected from frequent use, materials with velcro will no longer peel, and the materials with be water proofed from drool.
My students can do many things well, if given the opportunity and the right materials.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
