I teach 3rd grade. All of my 20 wonderful students receive free school lunch.

For some strange reason cursive handwriting is not part of the curriculum at my school. This means that students leave our school in the 5th grade having never been taught how to write in script. They go onto middle school without this skill, which is a disadvantage for them, as handwriting is taught at other schools.

I would like cursive handwriting books for my students so that I may teach them cursive handwriting more effectively. My students have asked me to teach them cursive writing, so I am currently teaching them cursive letters, and the kids practice in their notebooks. I know that having practice books would help them to better grasp this skill.

I have heard the argument that cursive handwriting is obsolete now that we live in the computer age. While it is true that people are typing more today, it is still important for students to learn cursive writing, and to develop a signature of their own. Will my students grow up and print their names on their driver's licenses, marriage certificates, and other important documents? What if some of them grow up to be celebrities - how will they sign autographs? Please help my students learn this valuable skill.
