Learning to write numbers and letters is an important task for children. It should be exciting and an enjoyable activity through which children can experience success. However, my students struggle with writing and even printing their own names.
I teach student with autism in grades second through fourth grades.
We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten to 22. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and need.
My Project
With a sign communication center students will need to sign in as they enter the classroom in the morning. This will give students practice with printing. The center will also be able to hold their communication notebooks so they will never become lost during the school day. So much time can be wasted through the school day looking for these communication notebooks.
You will help handwriting become more fun and enjoyable for my students.
Most of the time handwriting becomes very difficult for students with autism. A communication center will help students learn that handwriting does not have to be painful. It can be fun!
