My Students

I teach a K-2 bilingual class in an urban school with 85% of the students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. All of my students are brand new to the United States. My students enter my classroom with little or no English. Many of them have never had a school experience in their native country. It is my job to prepare them for the regular education classroom.

My students are from 5 different countries, speaking 4 different languages.

My students are all eager and excited to learn.

My Project

My students are eager to learn and parents are excited to know what they can do to help at home. One way to help my students accelerate their reading progress is to learn sight words and read them automatically. I would like for each student to be able to have a set of the first 100 sight words to practice at school. I would also like to give them the same set to keep at home. In addition, I would like to also have a few sets of level 2 and level 3 for the students who have mastered the first 100 words and are ready for a challenge.

I would like these sight word flash cards to help build a bridge between home and school.

I currently have 30 level 1 sight word boxes at school, so I need an additional 30 for students to bring home. For the extension of level 2 and 3, I think starting with a set of 12 would work for each level for those kids who have advanced reading skills.
