My students need method books to assist with sight reading skills. Ensembles are required to sight read music at the state's music performance evaluation.

My Students
I expose students to basic elements of music needed to become successful. At the close of this school year, I want them to be able to sight read level three music. Lack of supplies is my challenge. My favorite quote is, "The pessimist complains, the optimist expects, and the leader adjusts.
My students are very eager to learn.
They greet me each morning before classes begin. We are in the holiday season which means they will have an opportunity to perform at various locations. This is especially exciting to them because they have not had this opportunity before. My school is described as being high poverty. All of my students receive free lunch and are disadvantaged; however they are very bright students. Many of them are very musically talented. All of our students use school instruments and many of them have to share instruments; however, they still spend time practicing their instrument and learning their music.
My Project
The school has not provided any teaching materials for my students. The method books that we currently use are books that I purchased and brought to the school. The books that I am requesting are used specifically to teach rhythms and will be very useful in teaching students how to sight read new music. For example, the method books that I currently use mention time signature but the examples provided are very limited. These books have a more varied repertoire of time signatures and rhythm drills. After students have completed working in these books they should be able to play level three music with very few rhythmic errors.
These books will be a vehicle to provide more structured instruction for my students.
As a result of using these books, my students will be more successful when they move from the books to printed sheet music. This will make them feel more confident in themselves and in their ability to be successful.
