Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My dual-language kindergarten students are enthusiastic and inquisitive learners. They are a diverse group, with varying different language abilities: some are Hispanic but speak more English, some speak only English but are learning Spanish, some are learning English as well as enriching their native language in Spanish in our class. Ours is a Title I school, surrounded by a working-class community. Despite the many struggles that families face, my students thrive with loving support from both their families and my classroom, both which have high expectations for children to excel.

My young scholars are curious, joyful, persistent, supportive, collaborative, and dedicated, preparing to meet the challenges of both the near and distant future.

I'm proud of the way they've remained engaged in less-than-desirable circumstances this school year with the pandemic still in full swing. I'm proud of the way student families have gone above and beyond in helping to support our classroom. Every day I look forward to working with my students as we move forward linguistically, socially-emotionally, cognitively, and physically. There is so much to accomplish, and that's so exciting!

My Project

As the first and only dual-language classroom on our school campus, I am both honored and excited to move our program forward. We need materials that will support the growth and development of oral language skills.

These materials will make a tremendous difference in student learning because my kindergarteners will be able to work with the teacher, collaborate with peers, or practice independently.

Students will enjoy the bright and colorful illustrations, and they will gain confidence reading age-appropriate leveled reading books; all the resources will support a rich learning environment in both English and Spanish.
