This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students have risen from many obstacles in life to get to this point. They are in a school that is still trying to recover from Hurricane Harvey. They are in a place where they are striving to do what is right, despite the constant pulls in the opposite direction. These students are eager to find personal successes and share them with those around them.
These students this school year will be able to show what they learn through engagement in everyday tasks.
What they accomplish this year will benefit them for the rest of their life.
My Project
It has been reported that the government shutdown will impact families receiving assistance for food. If the shutdown continues, anyone expecting food stamps in February will not get them until the budget is approved.
Our students need to know that if that were to happen, they can still have food.
Our school provides free lunch for everyone for 3 meals, but that doesn't mean that their family is fed.
By helping provide rice, powdered milk, and soup packs, our students can be assisted a little bit. There are other projects that are up that provide other foods to help with this project. If the government does open up, the food will still go to families who need it.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
