My students each need their own pair of tap shoes in order to learn to tap dance and perform for their parents and the school in the spring. Request are 30 pairs of tap shoes.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give my students a chance to shine!!! Their 15 minutes of fame...boost their confidence so I can send them off to middle school with their chin up high! I teach 5th grade in a neighborhood where more than 50% of the children are living below the poverty level. They need a boost!
I am a dancer! My students want to learn to dance from me. They are willing to stay after school to learn to tap dance. I am willing to stay after school to teach them for free. I have students who have no confidence in academic areas. I want to find something for them to feel confident in, and then ease them back into the academics.
I just need the shiny black shoes with the taps! I have boys who are at risk to join gangs next year once they get to middle school, I have girls who are already sneaking around to be with boyfriends...I want them to busy with me after school learning a skill, getting exercise and building coordination and confidence. Not to mention improving rhythm and math skills at the same time.
Here is your chance to support us (my class and me) in our joint effort. They asked for it! It wasn't my idea! Don't get me wrong...I am thrilled to do it, I just never thought this group would have wanted to learn to tap dance. Here is an opportunity for these children to have positive experiences at school and learn to want to come to school.
These students were recently excluded from an activity with the "high achieving" 5th grade class because I was told that my students might feel embarrassed by all of the attention the high achieving students would be getting. I want to give my students their chance to get some positive attention from the rest of the school and the community.
