Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school uses PBIS, positive behavior intervention support, to encourage students to be good citizens and make good choices. Our school rewards students for AR (reading) and attendance. But the rewards are spread out and tend to be rewarded to the same students each trimester. In addition these rewards are fleeting - DJ parties, bouncy house recess, popsicles, extra recess, etc.
Young students are highly motivated when they can show what they've accomplished.
I'd like to give students a reward that can be given out frequently and result in a tangible item in which they can show and take pride. Brag tags are a fairly new idea and there is only one website that offers them. And even then, they are expensive and generic.
These materials will give me the ability to create tags that are specific to our school and classroom. It also allows students to create them, which promotes student buy-in. The beads are for when students earn the same reward multiple times. As the beads grow, students can plainly see how amazing they are!
