This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is an inner-city middle school, where supplies are extremely difficult to obtain. The students that I teach work extremely hard and take their learning very seriously. They thrive in math, as they are in honors classes. This coming year, however, they will be taking an accelerated high school level course during the 8th grade. It would be nice to be able to supply them with all the supports they need to excel in this endeavor and gain credit for high school.
My Project
Displaying important formulas and sharing student work is important. Working together is a daily routine in my classroom. When students work together they are able to communicate with each other, encourage each other and share the different mathematical ways of solving problems. With the Post It chart paper, each group students can show their work, post it in the classroom, and then present it to their peers. In addition, their work can be archived and displayed around the classroom all year around. With all the different topics in mathematics, students often forget information. Posting important formulas as well as their work is a great reference if they forget a topic. This way they don’t have to rely on their teacher or their notes. They can use their environment to rely on themselves and be super prepared for exams.
