it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school and my students are excited to explore, to learn and to expand and broaden their horizons just to be given the opportunities that other children take for granted.
My students are sons and daughters of first generation immigrants who struggle sometimes to find the right path to success but they put forth maximum effort when given the right motivation.
They are unique in the sense that they are high achievers, despite facing the typical immigrant population challenges. Our overwhelming Hispanic population needs support but, given the right tools, will perform at a high level.
My Project
Students will use the iPad mini to access Microsoft SWAY and create in a matter of minutes a presentation with pictures, Power Points, Animations, and their unique and personal narrative that depicts who they are and where their family came from in order to understand who they are and share by presenting to the class. The story created will require multimedia my students will present it in class using an Apple adapter to connect to a projector. This activity will help them create --focusing on grammar, inventiveness and originality-- but at the same time it will afford them the opportunity to be presenters and innovators, developing skills such as public speaking in the target language, as well as developing their technological abilities. My students will use SWAY (a Microsoft application) to unify their narrative using all kinds of multimedia including sounds, pictures, videos and avatars in order to bring together their life experiences and share with the rest of the class. For instance, instead of just writing an essay about their life, my students will use words and sentences as a mere departure point that will include multiple representation of information (multimedia) to design, create and bring all the information in a cogent and coherent manner that will show and not just tell their unique story.
