My students need journals so that they can become better recorders of scientific data, procedures, methods and processes.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science has an enormous impact on how we view the systems of the world. For students to be actively engaged in the process of learning science they need to write, record and reflect on the things that they observe. Journals have a powerful impact on the learning in the classroom.
Our students are thrivers, strong-willed and optimistic learners.
They are students who live in some of the most dangerous and pessimistic places in Chicago. Yet in the midst of the chaos and challenges that plague their homes and lives they have the power to persist and learn. our students are not the average learners they are above average because they have tremendous character forged in their adversity outside the classroom. The school that they attend gives them an outlet from the chaos and special time to focus and be a regular student\child. For the entire school day the students are children with hopes and aspirations. We are a small school with big dreams and visions for all of our students. The school is a factory of hope and optimism for the staff and students. Without the school, teachers and staff the children would be limited in their capacity to learn and the drive to learn would be slower than average. Our students understand that education is not an option they need it.
My Project
The resources that I need for my children are journals for scientific inquiry. We need to have these journals so that we can record, write and explore scientific methods, concepts and skills. With these journals we can record our observations and create meaningful dialog in our group investigations. Each day we will have a different activity for science. The student will record the activity number, date, the materials, data and the reflection\analysis questions in their journals. This will eliminate the need for notebook paper and this will also give the students a prepared study guide for quizzes and test. If and when the student will need help understanding concepts they can use their journals as a reference point to gather information. The journals will have an appendix, a glossary, title page, and a table of contents. When the school year is finish the students keep their journals and use them for future learning as well.
This is important because most of our students do not have strong science backgrounds and our society is full of science.
We must educate the whole child and the child must be ready to challenge the intellect that they already possess. Life sciences have a profound effect on how we treat the environment, our bodies and the communities that we live in and our science program will make the students better citizens.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
