My Project
Research shows that students are often more willing to show work on a non-permanent surface. Whiteboards provide students with a way to work out math problems in a way that allows mistakes to be easily corrected and feel less threatening.
Mistakes are part of learning math, but often students are afraid to make mistakes on paper, which is more permanent.
If students can learn to value and learn from mistakes, their mathematical thinking matures, and their conceptual understanding grows.
It is important to have enough whiteboards, markers, and erasers to have one for each student and replacements, as markers and erasers will eventually stop working.
