Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade students in a high poverty neighborhood. Many of our students do not have pencils, let alone poster boards for their projects. Someone used to donate these boards to us but we do not have that resource anymore.
These poster boards will help over 900 students show what they know about numbers and how we use them in everyday life, our school pledge, and different cultures and their traditions. We have several contests (with great incentives) throughout the year and we would like to provide the paper for them. Motivation will be high! My students are to collect examples of how they use numbers in everyday life. They come up with millions of ideas after they get started. Remote controls, microwaves, shopping, cooking, etc. Next, we have a multicultural project where the students visit other parts of the world and research traditions, customs, foods, dance etc. and display it all on a poster board. The students work in class and families get involved by helping them display their accomplished work.
Some things in life are easy for us, but for our children, the simplest of things can be out of reach. These poster boards will enlighten an entire community and reach over 1,000 students, family and friends with their designs. The students collect examples of how numbers are used in their life and present it to others. These posters will help them improve their self-esteem, show what they know and enlighten everyone to their discoveries. Most of the parents we have do not have the money to go out and buy poster boards. If the children are provided the posters, they will be sharing their knowledge of numbers with their families, and they will in turn be more concerned with their child's schoolwork. It will become a family project, thus bringing them together and improve the child's motivation to learn more! Everyone will benefit. We work on these projects in class and at home. You will reach so many people with poster board!
By supporting this project, you will make children see and understand that people do care and there is hope for everyone and everything. You will bring a school family and home family together with learning discoveries and further instill the joy of learning! Yes, poster boards can do that by getting everyone involved in education by working together on a number project!
