My Students
Whiteboards are an essential classroom item that we use multiple times a day. We use the whiteboards to show if the children have understood the lesson. We have old whiteboards that the children cannot use anymore because they are stained with permanent markers or broken.
My class is an inclusion, special education, first grade class from a public school in New York City.
Most of the children are English Language Learners, who speak another language at home. My class is an enthusiastic bunch of kids that love coming to school and learning!
My Project
I am requesting a new set of classroom whiteboards and erasers. We use personal whiteboards very often to see which of the students understood the lesson and who needs more help. We use whiteboards during math, phonics instruction, writing, science, and social studies. Using whiteboards is a beneficial and useful way for me to provide informal assessment many times during the school day. The whiteboards also help to keep the kids engaged in the lesson.
These whiteboards will be so helpful to me to informally assess my students and for the students to keep them engaged in the lessons.
Keeping the students on task and learning is always a challenge with such young children so that's why I use whiteboards. I noticed a huge improvement in their understanding of lessons after we began using the whiteboards.
