Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 7th grade Life Science at a low-income, high need school in Connecticut. My students are intelligent, hard-working, motivated children, many of whom have had considerable difficulties both in the classroom and out.
In my first year teaching, I discovered that I did not always fully understand what my students were confused about. Often, I did not realize until to late that they were harboring misconceptions that I could have easily prevented if I had an efficient way to judge the understanding of all of my students during class (which can be difficult with 30 students in a 24-student lab).
The whiteboards and markers I requested will provide an efficient, simple, yet effective method for me to pose questions to all students during class, before misunderstandings can cement. I know from experience that students love using the whiteboards, and can think of an application in almost every lesson I teach.
With your support, this project will help me to make sure I am not leaving any students in my classroom behind as I move through a packed curriculum. Your generosity will ensure that even my quietest students have a voice in science class.
