Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students, a majority of whom are English language learners, attend a Title I school, highly impacted by poverty and trauma. However, my students' resiliency to these adverse conditions is inspiring. In an effort to help foster their resiliency and meet their needs, students at our school are now learning within a two-teacher model. I am their math teacher.
My students come to me wanting and excited to learn math, especially when hands-on materials are available for them to build concrete understanding of math concepts.
My Project
Students will be able to use their whiteboards to show their mathematical thinking by writing equations, solutions to equations, and writing mathematical steps that show their mathematical understanding. Research shows, that students who can show/explain theri thinking have a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
Students will be able to use their whiteboards to process their thinking in whole group, small group and one on one teaching situations.
The erasers will help them maintain the quality of their whiteboards.
And finally, the magnetic wands are so fun and engaging for students. Used in tandem with magnetic manipulatives, students can magically whisk away their manipulatives, and bring them back as well. My students will be able to add, subtract, and create arrays, just to name a few, with their magic wands, having fun and learning as they do so!
