My Project

My students have Individualized Education Programs with a variety of communication deficits. Many have articulation deficits and need visual cues to correctly produce their speech sounds while others have expressive language weaknesses and need visuals to generate sentences, retell information, and answer questions.

The Bjorem Speech Publication cards are colorful interactive cards that my students can use to improve their expressive language.

Research has shown that using three to five minimal word pairs (i.e., key/tea, dot/dog) can facilitate generalization in children; therefore having colorful, vibrant picture cards with word pairs will help my students improve their articulation skills and generalize their sounds across contexts.

Storytelling is a foundational skill of communication and builds from preschool-age throughout the school-age years. If students are sharing about their days, retelling stories or creating their own stories, developing comprehension of essential story grammar elements provides a framework that will lead to a increased comprehension and improved narrative skills. Narrative abilities are predictive of academic success and serve as a bridge between oral and written language so help me support my students by providing them with the visual supports and interventions to improve their language skills.
