My Students
Our high school is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We are a Project Based Learning (PBL) school which emphasises hands-on experiential learning versus textbook and lecture. Our school looks to instill in each and every student the values of trust, respect, responsibility, and excellence. Our school is one of choice in which students apply and submit their names into a lottery drawing. The names are drawn randomly to make a the roster for the upcoming school year.
Our students make a tremendous effort to attend our school and we do our best to provide them with an exemplary education.
However, our students predominantly come from households that have a lower socioeconomic status. Our school does its best to provide its teachers with project funds, but that leaves little or nothing in the way of travel funds to even visit our local sites.
My Project
My World Geography students would greatly benefit from Virtual Reality headsets that would allow them to experience the world locally, nationally, and globally. I want to make iconic locations and sites accessible to my students and provide them with the chance to experience places they would not have the opportunity to otherwise. The VR headsets would allow the students a hands on view to what they are learning about in the classroom. I hope these VR headsets will inspire my students to visit the places and cultures they virtually experience in the classroom and choose to experience them firsthand when they are older.
