My Students
My school is a Title 1 school, with over 45% of the population receiving free or reduced lunch. This year in particular, our area has been severely hit by hurricane Harvey and it is still recovering from the aftermath of this disaster.
Resilience is the word that can better describe the young people in my class.
They love challenges and take part in every project I offer them, whether to volunteer and help others, tutoring their peers, or being involved in the Italian Community in our city.
They work hard, are highly motivated (I step in when they are not!) and deserve to have access to the best learning opportunities.
My Project
In my classroom we use technology in order for students to find learning grammar more appealing; I can also show them images and videos to bring Italy to the classroom and teach them about Italian culture, art and daily life.
We have an old projector that requires my students to have an incredible imagination to actually be able to see anything that is being projected.
They are extremely eager to learn, and sometimes just try to get closer to the screen, but let's face it: we can hardly see any color or really understand the images...
My students are very hard working (not just at school: most of them have a real job to help their families or save to have the opportunity to go to university) and their work has always paid off: they always score well in both national and local competitions, and their scores at the AP Italian are amazing.
I have many activities to help them achieve good results and technology helps me give them all the support they need, it being extra practice interactive exercises for grammar, or exposure to real life Italian with videos and presentations.
