Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In a world of technology, smart phones, and tablets, our school runs on pencils and paper. As a teacher, I love fancy posters and neat handwriting, but it is time to enter the 21st century!
Our students come from one of the poorest neighborhoods west of the Mississippi.
Most do not have cell phones, computers at home, or internet service. The majority do not have consistently working home phones. 99% of our kids are eligible for free lunch. Almost every penny of our school budget goes to covering the bare essentials for our kids. We even help out with clothes and shoes, if they need us to!
My Project
The bare minimum isn't always enough. We'd love to work with technology, like making short films, a few times a year. In a global society, our kids will behind if they can't solve problems behind a computer screen. Sharing cameras will help students collaborate, plan, and communicate to express complex ideas. They are smart today. With cameras, they would be smart and equipped for the world outside of our community.
Help us change the community and push our students to grow new skills.
You can make a difference, even with only a dollar or two. We will make sure our kids have the basics, but any exposure to technology or the arts will change their lives for the better. You can make that happen, today!
