Shining Bright for Lunar New Year

My Project

Teaching about Lunar New Year is an important way to introduce students to diverse cultural traditions and foster global understanding. Engaging students in activities like making crafts such as ring and candy dishes (seashells and mod podge) allows them to connect with the celebration through hands-on learning, while also sparking creativity and curiosity. By providing materials such as tissues, crayons and scissors students can make lanterns and dragons related to Lunar New Year. Doing this reinforces key cultural symbols in a fun and interactive way. This process not only enhances fine motor skills but also promotes inclusivity by celebrating the rich traditions and customs of different communities. Adding counters, tissues, crayons and scissors to our classroom will help me teach the concept of new beginnings and renewal with fresh and working supplies!

Understanding Lunar New Year can teach children about the values of family, renewal, and community, helping to create a more empathetic and culturally aware generation.

This early exposure will foster a sense of respect for others, promote inclusivity, and broaden their understanding of global celebrations, enriching their emotional and social development.
