This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a hard working, creative, and hilarious group of students that make every day in the classroom filled with fun and laughter. My students range from 3rd graders to 6th graders, and together we are working towards becoming mathematical problem solvers. The students I work with are motivated and come to class each day excited to see what new skill they will be working on.
My students come to me from a variety of academic ability levels, however they all have one thing in common, they show up with an open mind and an excitement for learning.
Our school is Title I with 100% or our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Our school community is diverse, and although many of our students face challenges every day, it is my job to ensure that my classroom is a safe space, one where they feel welcome, safe, included, and cared for.
My Project
Technology plays a big role in creating engaging classroom lessons. In our classroom, our Smart Board, projector, and document camera are a few of the tools that are used throughout every lesson. However, our projector has become so dim, that a new bulb won't even solve the problem. If we want to use our projector in our classroom, we have to have all the lights completely off, and even then the picture is far from clear.
Our projector is a pivotal component in our classroom, we use it to take virtual field trips, review essential skills with highly engaging games, and students can display their own work under the document camera to share out their strategies on new and challenging skills.
It has become the most used piece of technology in our room, and one that we rely on to bring our lessons to life.
Our projector is past the point of repair, and is barely visible, even from the front of the room. My students often have to complete activities in the dark, with only a few lamps to provide a small bit of light. Having a new projector would "brighten" our classroom this year, and for years to come!
