FULLY FUNDED! Ms. P.'s classroom raised $520

I teach 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies to 45 students at a Title 1 school in South Carolina.
The purpose of reading instruction is to foster an appreciation for reading and increase the students' reading levels which is often hard since a majority of my students are below grade level in reading and often get frustrated and give up when reading. Therefore my job as their reading teacher is to find wonderful books to get them excited about reading and as a result increase their reading levels. Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is one of those exciting books. Once my class began reading Shiloh I was amazed by the transformation in some students. Students were eager to read and held lively discussions about what they were reading. Never before had the students asked to continue reading instruction but that's just what they did with Shiloh. They begged to continue reading each day.
After completing the book students were enthused to find out that there were two more Shiloh books. However I could not find enough copies of these books to use it as a class novel study. I feel that it is necessary for there to be at least one book for each two students so that every student may equally participate in the reading process.
I would like to obtain a class set (28 copies) each of Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh as well as the accompanying books on tape to use as part of a Shiloh series book study. By fulfilling our need of class sets of novels, you are providing not only the current fifth grade students but future 5th graders with an extraordinary literary experience that can draw them to reading for life!
