I need to utilize the text 'Shifting the Balance' for elementary teachers to learn through a book study about the Science of Reading and balanced literacy instruction.

My Project

This event will allow the teachers in our elementary to access the authors of the text Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom. Utilizing the bookstudy guide, 20 teachers will be able to learn the nuances of teaching reading backed with the science of how the brain learns to read.

Understanding the importance of phonemic awareness and phonics for our youngest learners is part of why the Science of Reading is so relevant right now.

Along with high frequency words, vocabulary and comprehension these elements of reading instruction are all necessary for all students to learn how to read. Research has now demonstrated how the brain learns to read and as educators, we need to pay attention!
