My Students
I work in a high poverty school and my students come from various backgrounds. School is the one place where these kids love to come because they will get two warm meals a day, they will be told how special they are, they will be loved by adults and most importantly, they will be held accountable.
School is the one place that is safe.
My students yearn to be in a place where their voice is heard, their stomachs are filled and where they feel valued and appreciated. It is my job to ensure that I fulfill all those needs while they are in my care. They are "my children" when they are in my classroom and I will do anything to ensure that they get the best experience possible. They are only "my children" for a year, but they stay in my heart forever.
My Project
In a digital testing era, it is more important than ever that all students are given an equal opportunity to be as successful as possible! Long gone are pencil and paper test, almost all of our testing is done on a computer.
With a set of headphones for every student, there is no doubt their test taking skills will greatly improve.
Students are fortunate that a majority of the tests can be read to them. This becomes a disadvantage to the student however, when they have no working headphones. The school I work at is a high poverty school and supplies are "optional to buy". As a result, headphones are the one item that never gets purchased.
Headphones will help reduce the noise, allowing students to concentrate on their test and it will ensure that they adequately hear the portions of the test that can be read to them. This will give every student a greater advantage of testing in an optimal testing environment, thus increasing their chances of a higher test score.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my project. Every year, I supplement the lack of supplies for my students out of my own budget. Unfortunately, a teacher's budget can only stretch so far. Last year I purchased cheaper ear buds, but the quality was just that, cheap. My hope is that with a quality set of classroom headphones, they will last for many years to come!
