My Students

My students are Kindergartners in a low income/high poverty area. They are some of the sweetest and smartest little people you could ever meet. They may not always have the best of things in their every day lives, but they LOVE school and are so eager to learn and grow. They have handled distance learning quite well and have been active participants in our daily online sessions.

With both distance learning and in class instruction a possibility for our upcoming school year, I am wanting to make sure that I plan meaningful and engaging lessons that will help my students stay focused and encourage a love of learning.

My Project

I am always searching for engaging, meaningful ways to teach my Kindergarten students how to read. I would love to implement Secret Stories to provide my students with the opportunity to "unlock the secrets" of the letters and their sounds. This approach to teaching reading is done through logical, and fun explanations of letters and the sounds they make.

Secret Stories brain based approach to phonics brings the study of words to life in an engaging and playful way that deepens learning and makes it stick.

It provides students with logical explanations of letter sounds told through "secrets" that the students can enjoy and remember! These "secrets" were created with the science of reading and brain-based research to speed up students' mastery of phonics alongside any reading or phonics curriculum.

The Secret Stories kit comes with colorful posters for display in the classroom, as well as stories, a phonics book, and phonics songs. My students love to sing, chant, and move while learning, and this program offers all of this. The variety of resources in the Secret Stories kit will be used with all of the students in my classrooms. Secret Stories would be the perfect addition to my reading instruction!
