This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach reading to a group of students from a low-income community. My students are reading significantly below grade level; however, they have a passion for learning. Despite their passion for learning, their progress have been hampered due to their low reading levels.
Even with numerous obstacles, my students are always eager to attend their reading session with me.
They enjoy my reading lessons, and they are always asking questions. They look forward to their time in the reading room with me.
My Project
Whisperphone is an auditory educational tool that is designed to help students who are struggling with their literacy skills such as reading fluency, phonological awareness, and their speech.
During my reading lesson, I will use whisperphones to help students who are having problems differentiating between some letters with similar sounds for example the letters f and v and the letters s and z .
These sounds always pose a challenge for my students so using the whisperphone in my lessons will help my students to accurately listen to the differences in the sounds while making them. Additionally, students will hear themselves read and this will help them with their fluency and pronunciation.
By knowing the difference between letter sounds and hearing themselves read, students will improve their reading skills which will lead to academic growth in reading.
