Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a creative, dynamic group who come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and vary in sexual orientation and gender. When students are able to connect to books, they learn that they actually like or even love reading. They are currently reading books that are of high interest and critically acclaimed. These books cover a variety of subjects with characters from various backgrounds, just like my students. They also deal with controversial or thought-provoking topics. Books like "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson and "Kneel" by Candace Buford, challenge students to put themselves in others' shoes, or they validate ideas and experiences that they already have.
