My students need a listening center that will teach them an important part of communication skills, CD books, and an electric sharpener to keep their writing tools ready.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help my scholars experience education through the use of the latest technology. My special needs students are in need of a complete listening center with CD books which will enhance their listening skills, as I daily remind my scholars that there is a big difference between listening and hearing.
My scholars are a great group of diverse learners and a listening center will be a welcome addition to support their listening skills.
The benefits of a listening center with CD books will help each and every one of them build their sight words, vocabulary, exposure to a variety of story structures (genres), and foster independence in their different reading abilities. By attaining these skills, they will built a strong reading foundation which will surely lead them to become successful future leaders of any community.
My scholars also agreed that we are in dire need of an electric sharpener which will allow us all to keep our pencils sharp and our imaginations sharper! An electric sharpener will allow my scholars not to waste large chunks of time "feeding" their manual pencil sharpeners instead of working, and only to see a stub of a pencil and no point with which to write.
My Project
All of the donated materials will be used on a daily basis by all the students and myself. The electric pencil sharpener will be use frequently throughout the day to sharpen well worn pencils while writing narratives, math problems, and making connections with our other content areas such as science and social studies.
Donations to my project will help my students become confident independent readers in our literacy block. My students work on various centers that gives them opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning. The listening center will be added to the daily rotation while I work with my small guided group. My scholars will be expected to discuss texts they have listened to. Thus, allowing for an awesome opportunity to use what they have heard as an inspiration to write their own creative stories.
This project is very important to all of us because it will be used in our everyday learning in this tested grade classroom.
This year more than ever, my third grade scholars need to develop their reading skills, as they will be taking state exams. The new listening center will be a wonderful addition to our daily centers and their reading development. In addition,I know we will all love the electric sharpener because it will allow us to keep our writing thoughts and momentum sharp.
