My Students

I am a first grade teacher at a Title I building in a large, diverse district in the Midwest. Although our students may face challenges, they love coming to school and work hard.

We are a neighborhood school and often have generations of families who choose to be part of our school family.

Our supportive parents are eager to partner with the school to help their children be successful.

My Project

Secret Stories are a brain-based approach to teaching phonics. Secret Stories are silly short stories that provide a logical explanation for letter sounds and letter combinations. Students love the funny stories and connect those stories to the posters and cards.

Secret Stories teach phonics the way children's brains naturally learn.

They appeal to as many senses as possible through stories, movement, visuals and sounds. The Secret Stories posters will be displayed in the classroom for frequent reference as students read and write. The Secret Stories flashcards will be used in small group to help students become fluent readers and writers.
