Shh! Do You Hear That? My Firsties are Calling!

Help me give my students whisper phones and digital timers so we can become self-motivated readers!

My Project

My first graders have finally started to develop confidence and pleasure in their ability to read on their own! I would love to give them the opportunity to independently read books of their choosing every day, giving them a sense of ownership over their learning! I already have enough book bins for each student to have one of their own, giving them the opportunity to choose books from our classroom library and store them in their own space for an easy grab-and-go system for independent reading time.

This project will give each of my students a whisper phone and a digital timer to keep in their individual book bins to help them self-manage during this time!

Research shows that whisper phones are beneficial to improving fluency, pronunciation, focus, and so much more! Having their own timer in each bin will help hold students accountable for the amount of time they are reading each day. I am excited to give my students the opportunity to become self-motivated and independent readers!
