This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are avid, imaginative, engaged readers and learners! A full 100% of students at this school and in my classroom receive free or reduced-rate lunch. A large population of students doesn't have consistent housing which results in frequent absences and school transfers. Some are significantly below grade level but this does not stop them from engaging with books during their independent reading time, daily read aloud, and ELA instruction. My students visit the library for 30 minute library sessions, they participate in learning activities and book selection but this is not adequate.

My Project

Having a library in my classroom is very important because our school library is not very diverse or big. To foster a love of reading in my students, I scour thrift stores and yard sales on the weekends for books. As a result, my classroom has tons of books in varying genres. However, my kiddos are unable to access them due to the lack of bookshelves and bins. To sum it up, we have nowhere to put our books! My school cannot afford classroom furniture and we would truly benefit from having this addition to our classroom! Funding this project would be huge for our classroom. Finally, we have books and with your help, a place to display them.
